DAD-OF-THREE Tony Jackson has been jailed after he ran down a street with three knives.

The 35-year-old knocked on a woman’s door and urged her to call the police.

She looked out and saw he was holding two knives. He then ran into a flat before coming back out on the street with a larger knife.

The police were called and he was arrested.

Now Jackson has been jailed for eight-and-a-half months at Stokeon-trent Crown Court.

Prosecutor Ben Lawrence said Jackson turned up at a house in Knight Street, Tunstall, at 1.45pm on June 12.

Mr Lawrence said: “The resident looked out of her window and saw the defendant holding two knives.

“He said, ‘Call the police, people are chasing me’. He ran up the road waving the knives before running into a flat, which belonged to his friend. He ran out carrying a large knife. A member of the public witnessed that and took a photograph.

“The police attended. The defendant was in possession of the knives. He complied with the police instructions and was arrested.”

Jackson told officers there was an incident at his friend’s flat. He confirmed he asked for the police to be called.

The court heard the defendant has previous convictions for possession of bladed articles.

Jackson, of Knight Street, Tunstall, pleaded guilty to possession of three knives in public and failing to surrender to bail.

Imran Khan, mitigating, said the defendant is remorseful. He said: “He wants to get his life back on track. At the time he was battling a drug and alcohol dependency.”

Judge Paul Glenn said: “Your behaviour on this particular day was bizarre. You caused significant alarm to other people.

“You said you had been chased although no-one seems to have seen that take place.

“In all this incident involved three knives.

“It is a concern to the court, a man with a drug habit running around a residential area with three knives.

“Knife crime is of such concern that deterrent sentences are appropriate.”
