WHAT a difference a week makes, just the type of gritty performances and defensive solidity missing against Cardiff. A few hairy moments but two clean sheets and the perfect answer to those of us so critical of the defenders during October. Souttar was back to his best, rock solid no frills defending aided by Baath doing what he does best. It’s meant becoming more direct but with Fletcher winning his fair share of headers and the ever-willing Brown adapting his game all the time, it’s had its reward with six points. Wilmot has had his critics and probably was due a rest, but a chink of light. He’s good enough to play wing back and so there is a route back, twice in his brief cameo he stole forward with more purpose than Smith had.

A final word for Sawyers, when he finds space his ball retention and passing is a joy, his assist for the goal being the one moment of class in a scrappy game.
