THAT GIN’S A WIZZARD IDEA!
Pop legend teams up with distillery
WIZZARD legend Roy Wood has teamed up with a Staffordshire gin distillery to create his own new product – just in time for Christmas.
The former frontman of the glam rock band – best known for their festive hit I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day – joined forces with Nelson’s Distillery and School for a different kind of Christmas spirit.
Roy was invited to take part in a Gin and Vodka School at Nelson’s Uttoxeter headquarters, on Grindley Business Village, where he hand-picked a festive recipe.
Now his new gin – called Christmas Cheer – is available to buy.
Roy said: “I was surprised to
be invited to create my own gin by Nelson’s. They even agreed to allow me to design my own label.
“A few years ago, I had the honour of performing a concert for the SAS, and discovered that their tipple of choice had always been 57 per cent Navy Strength gin. So we thought that it would only be correct, to follow their guidance, and make our Christmas Cheer gin at 57% ABV.
“I had an interesting day at
Nelson’s Distillery, and was intrigued by the amount of ingredients that can be included and mixed with the final brew.
“Because it has Christmas Cheer printed on the label, we thought that it would be a good idea to create the festive taste of all the things we associate with Christmas.”
Christmas Cheer is a mix of festive flavours including cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla. It comes in a distinctive black bottle with a gothic-style label. The gin has been produced to celebrate Roy’s 75th birthday – on November 8 – and to mark the run-up to the festive season.
The collaboration comes just months after Nelson’s Distillery and School teamed up with world renowned chef Michel Roux Jr to produce a new gin.
The spirit – called Le Gavroche Gin – was created in tribute to Michel’s two Michelin-star restaurant of the same name.
