‘Green spaces are being destroyed’

-

THERE’S no difference between those destroying the Amazon rainforest and our council doing the same to green land here.

It’s Government policy to build on brownfield sites rather than green where available.

We have more than enough of these to meet our needs yet hardly a week goes by without developers being given permission to destroy another green space with little or no concern for the impact this has on those who live nearby or local wildlife.

The usual excuse is ‘we need more houses’. Yes we do but not these houses and not on these sites.

The people who need homes are first time buyers and others on low incomes who can’t afford this type

of property. If they could they’d have no problem as there’s always plenty of similar houses on the market anyway.

No, these houses are not being built for them but as a cash cow to attract wealthier people into what is already an overcrowded area.

Meanwhile only a trickle of affordable homes

are actually being built. The council remains ever reluctant to clear brownfield sites and those lucky enough to still have a patch of green to enjoy, fear that it’s their spot next.
