PETER LAWRENCE (LABOUR)
I am privileged to stand as a Labour candidate in the Westlands ward. I have lived in neighbouring Keele for the last 48 years, having taught economics at Keele University. I have frequently shopped in Paris Avenue and knocked on many Westlands doors canvassing for Labour in previous elections, so I know the area very well. I want to see a fairer Newcastle with all parts of the borough well served by a council that listens to residents’ concerns and acts on them. I support current initiatives to preserve St Peter’s Church as a community centre, to deal with the stink from Walleys Quarry and to preserve the former Keele golf course as a recreational green space. I appreciate why residents are shocked at the state of the roads in the area. If elected, I promise to do all I can to represent the concerns and demands of Westlands residents.
GILL HEESOM (CONSERVATIVE), MARK HOLLAND (CONSERVATIVE) AND ROBIN STUDD (LIB DEM) These three candidates missed the deadline to provide a statement.
