These are the candidates standing in the WOLSTANTON WARD
RICHARD GORTON (LABOUR) I am standing in Wolstanton because I want to see a cleaner, greener, and safer Newcastle. Under Labour, greater priority would be given to key services like street cleaning, grass cutting and refuse collection. I am also concerned at the loss of green spaces across the borough and believe that Newcastle needs a development plan which strikes a better balance between building new homes and conserving open spaces. Wolstanton residents fear that the proposed ‘bus gate’ on Basford Bank will increase the volume of traffic through the village and Porthill. If elected, Wolstanton Labour councillors will campaign for an alternative scheme.
I have lived in Newcastle for 25 years. I retired from full-time work in 2017 and in recent years I have been a volunteer tutor for a local senior citizens’ group.
