BAGNALL NORTON NET THE SPOILS THANKS TO CIAN

- Chris Travers NSSCL Division Four

BAGNALL Norton seconds have two wins out of two in NSSCL Division Four following a comfortable victory at their Barlaston counterparts.

Daniel Gammon, Paul Tomkinson and Andrew Whitehurst all made 29 for Bagnall Norton, but it was Luke Morris who made the biggest impact with the bat.

Morris hit 11 fours and two sixes in his 81 as the visitors closed their 40 overs on 213-8.

John Aked claimed 3-47 for Barlaston, with Richard Sharpe taking a couple of wickets.

Barlaston never really got going after tea, despite Rob Aked contributing 21.

It was Cian Gibson who proved to be the hosts’ nemesis, taking 4-5, as Barlaston were dismissed for just 72.

Nick Buxton and Dave Evans also played their part with two wickets each.

It has also been a good start for the two Moddershall & Oulton teams in the division, with the thirds and fourths having the maximum 36 points.

The thirds made home advantage count to defeat Silverdale seconds.

Silverdale were limited to 136-5, in which David Moors (36), Matt Smith (33no) and Chris White (26) made decent impacts.

It was a target which didn’t unduly trouble the Modd men, though, as they secured a seven-wicket success inside 28 overs.

Stephen Powell fronted their bid with 53, which contained nine boundaries, receiving fine support from Kalinga Liyanage (31) and Paul Mchale (26).

The fourths won by the same margin at Onneley, but faced a sterner run chase to bank the points.

They were set 201 for victory and were given a good start to the post-tea action by Shameera Weerasinghe (33).

It was then left up to Tharaka Jayawardane (75no) and Ravi Lindamulage (43no) to put the finishing touches to the successful chase.

Jake Short had earlier made 86 hitting eight fours and two sixes - to form the backbone of Onneley’s 200-6.

Tom Salt (38) also impressed, while Nishantha Jayakody and Dinesh Cooray shared four of the wickets to fall.

Porthill Park thirds also have a 100 per cent record after a four-wicket triumph at Crewe.

Crewe were restricted to 130-9 from their 40 overs, which saw Louis Bacon top score with an unbeaten 59.

Nathan Stubbs claimed 3-12 for Porthill Park and there were a couple of wickets for James Cope.

Michael Whittingham (3-23) and Ollie Jarvis (3-26) led the Crewe revival in reply, but Mathew Guest (31), Connor Uren (29) and Chris Matthews (25) saw Porthill Park to their target.

Audley seconds kept their composure to beat Bignall End seconds by four runs at Kent Hills.

Hosts Audley made their way to an impressive 190-8 from their allocation.

Ian Wilshaw smashed seven fours and five sixes in his unbeaten 75, with Finley Beswick (38) and Andrew Joynson (29) also impressing.

Zack Smith picked up 3-28 and Oliver Horne chipped in with a couple of victims.

Bignall End looked to be on course for success as openers Andrew Howle and Tom Myatt put on 105 for the first wicket.

Howle made 61 and Myatt added 35, but there was a twist to proceedings.

Andrew Johnson struck twice and although Joel Brierley (23) and Manazeer Ashan Nawaz (22) were in the runs, Bignall End closed on 186-5.

Leek eased to an eight-wicket victory at home against Hem Heath thirds.

Richard Gill’s 5-17 kept Hem Heath down to 116-8, in which Giles Bloore top-scored with 25.

Leek needed just 13.3 overs to knock off the runs as Joshua Woodcock hit 63 not out, off 36 balls, and Kieran Carr weighed in with 31.
