POLICE PROBE DRIVER ASSAULT ALLEGATIONS
A TAXI driver has been suspended as police investigate allegations a pregnant woman was pushed over in a row over a fare.
Lucky Seven confirmed its cabbie has been taken off the road following an incident in Newcastle Street, Middleport, on Tuesday.
Eye-witnesses claim a young mum-to-be was left ‘crying her eyes out in fear’ in the Morrisons Daily convenience store. It is alleged the woman - reportedly three months pregnant - was assaulted, followed and verbally abused after she asked to be taken to a different cash machine.
Staffordshire Police said no injuries were reported and a 54-year-old man had been voluntarily interviewed in connection with the incident, which happened at about 4.30pm.
Longton-based Lucky Seven said an argument had broken out because the passenger had not paid. A spokesman said: “This driver is not working for us at the moment and won’t be working with us until we have confirmation from the police.”
