MP’S CONCERNS OVER ‘CHUGGERS’

-

AN investigation has been launched into ‘intimidating’ chuggers selling ‘charity’ wristbands in a town centre.

A number of shoppers have been left feeling uneasy by the tactics of the charity collectors on Castle Walk in Newcastle.

One of the shoppers has now written to Newcastle MP Aaron Bell to highlight their concerns. Mr Bell has now passed those concerns onto Newcastle Borough Council chief executive Martin Hamilton.

In his letter, Mr Bell said: “One of my caseworkers has looked at its website and was unable to find a charity number. Social media links on the site sent her to a web creation site. I share your concerns about whether these sellers are genuine. I have contacted Martin Hamilton to ask him if he is aware of these sellers in the town centre and if they are required to have a licence.”
