A FORMER stay-at-home mum has opened her own salon and won a national award – just two years after deciding to do her training.

Alisa Matthews, from Packmoor, opened her salon, Alisa Jade, in Ford Green Road, Smallthorne, this week.

She started her nail firm, of the same name, at the beginning of lockdown in March 2020, and is now qualified in nails, lashes, and micropigmentation.

She has hired an extra person who is planning to offer spray tanning, and Alisa is taking an extra course to be able to do eyebrow waxing and tints.

The 32-year-old lives with her husband William and has three boys and two stepsons aged 18, 13, 10, nine, and five.

She said: “I opened the salon on Wednesday. I saw the building up for rent, and I went to have a look.

“It was offered to somebody else at the time, but a week later they messaged me and said it had fallen through. I spoke to my husband and we decided to just do it – it was like fate.”

Alisa also came second in the Social Media Hair and Beauty Awards 2022 for Nail Technician of the Year. She has also reached the finals of two other awards.

“When I won the award, I was super excited,” she said. “I hadn’t been in the industry too long.

“To be able to achieve second place is amazing. I was happy just to be in the finals. My family are so proud of me. All the boys now want to work there.

“My youngest wants to do lashes. It’s nice that they’re so proud and got to see me achieve something.

I hope it inspires them.”
