MAN CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER

50-year-old due in court after cyclist critically injured

A MAN has been charged with attempted murder after a cyclist was critically injured.

Ijaz Ahmed, 50, of Harrowby Road, Meir, is due to appear in court over the incident.

It comes after emergency services were called to Bowness Road, Middleton, Rochdale, following a collision between a blue Toyota Yaris and a cyclist at around 7am on December 10.

The road was taped off between Threlkeld Road and Gatesgarth Road with a forensic tent erected at the scene.

Great Manchester Police say the cyclist – aged in his 30s – was then assaulted with a weapon before being taken to hospital in a serious condition.
