Hannah’s verdict: One station that’s well worth a stop

-

I POPPED into Oatcake Station on Wednesday morning to try out their new offerings. I went for a single oatcake with sausage, which came to £2.

The shop itself was a pleasant place to wait for my order with its stained glass windows and black and white tiled floor.

After a short wait my order was given to me wrapped in foil in a paper bag with a couple of napkins. When I unwrapped the package at home I found that the oatcake was also on a paper plate, which made for an easy clear up. The oatcake was folded over and I peeped inside to see a whole sausage butterflied in half, and a good amount of grated cheese, most of which had melted as it was given to me piping hot. It was exactly the right type of sausage that you want to find in your oatcake – a no-nonsense banger rather than anything fancier.

I was delighted to find that the cheese had a bit of bite to it. It was definitely more on the mature end of the scale rather than an insipid mild cheddar, which was a big plus for me.

The oatcake itself was a deep, golden brown and a bit crispy around the edge – again, this was a positive for me. In fact it was absolutely delicious and left me wishing I had ordered a double. I can definitely recommend making a stop at Oatcake Station.
