BRINGING BLOOMS BACK TO THE CITY

-

The National Trust is working with partners in order to give communities more access to nature through the creation of green spaces and blossom gardens. The aim is to create places where people have space to relax and celebrate the beauty of spring year after year. As part of Birmingham 2022 Festival this spring, the conservation charity created two pop-up blossom gardens with colourful seating in the city centre. Over winter these – along with a further 500 blossoming trees – will be planted by residents and community groups to create a symbolic ‘ring of blossom’ around the city.

In Coventry, the conservation charity is working with Historic Coventry Trust, Coventry City Council and the local community to create a blossom garden at Charterhouse Heritage Park, to mark Coventry’s tenure as City of Culture and leave a lasting legacy. Meanwhile, the blossom trees to be planted at Lenton Recreation Ground in Nottingham are part of the city’s ambitions to plant 50,000 trees over two years.
