JOSH IS BOWLER CAVERSWALL NEED TO SET UP EASY VICTORY

- Chris Travers NSSCL Division Five

JOSH Need was left in seventh heaven after a stunning bowling performance in Caverswall’s NSSCL Division Five win against Stone SP thirds.

Need helped himself to remarkable figures of 7-7 from 6.3 overs to skittle visitors Stone SP for just 31.

Unsurprisingly, Caverswall had few concerns in knocking off the runs, and although Harry Tuckwell claimed a couple of victims, the hosts ran out seven-wicket winners.

That was a second win in three for Caverswall, while Stone SP have lost all of their league matches and have managed to bank a mere eight points.

It’s Blythe who are bottom, though, after they were well beaten on their visit to Norton in Hales.

Simon Line captured 5-7 to leave Blythe all out for 57, despite Jonathan Dreher batting throughout for his 14.

Norton in Hales required only 5.1 overs to achieve a nine-wicket success as James Ruscoe made light work of the visitors’ attack.

Ruscoe faced just 22 balls for his unbeaten 47, which included six fours and three sixes.

That was Norton in Hales’ third successive victory... a record which is match by Burslem.

Burslem, promoted from Division Six at the end of last season, have comfortably settled into their new surroundings and registered their latest success with a six-wicket home triumph against Little Stoke seconds.

Wasim Ahmed (4-10) and Gareth Kinsey (3-10) did the damage as Little Stoke were bowled out for 54. Finley Simms top-scored with 25.

Nick Bratt claimed 3-20 after the interval, but Liam Pattison’s 31 guided Burslem to the points.

Knypersley held their nerve to win by one wicket at home against Meir Heath.

Set 145 to win, Robert Whilding made 23, but Knype slipped to 74-7.

However, a 56-run eighth-wicket stand between James Leese and Jacob Cumberbatch helped to turn the tables.

Cumberbatch fell for 28 with the winning line in sight, but Leese carried on to the end to finish on 54 not out, which contained seven

fours. Muhammed Waseem took 4-18 having earlier made 48 in Meir Heath’s 144-9 from their 40 overs..

Marcus Kiely (5-4) was the pick of the Knype attack, while there were two wickets apiece for the Cumberbatch brothers - Jacob and Dominic.

Ashcombe Park beat Alsager by seven wickets at Basford Bridge Lane.

Visitors Alsager made their way to 122-9 on the back of Martin Gregory’s 43.

Keith Hallam, Joe Alcock and Grant Roberts all struck twice.

Ashcombe Park eased to their target as Steve Proffitt compiled 53 not out, hitting 10 fours, and Nick Goodwin chipped in with 20.

Woore were in fine form on the road as they returned from Sandon with a comprehensive success.

Usman Yaqub’s 54 was backed up by Ashwin Gowda (48), Tas Hussain (38) and Matthew Kenvyn (32) as the visitors posted 215-7 from their allocation.

Greg Swanwick was the pick of the Sandon attack, taking 4-48.

David Nash replied with 27, but double strikes from Hayyan Khan, Yaqub and Kenvyn left Sandon all out for 106 in their chase.
