TV personality Nick Knowles has praised the ‘tremendous effort’ of the Stoke-on-trent community who took part in the BBC DIY SOS project in Fegg Hayes.

The TV star and his team were in the Potteries earlier this year for a two-week big build.

They were called in by local charity the Sylvester Community Trust to transform the area on Oxford Road into something which can benefit local people, such as improving their health, education or food growing activities.

The new series of the show is now available on iplayer and is also being shown on BBC One. The Fegg Hayes build is set to be screened on Tuesday, June 7.

Host Nick says he is ‘so glad’ that the Fegg Hayes project is ‘thriving’ after photos were shared on social media by local PCSO Nick Warrilow.

Nick, who patrols the Stanfield, Mill Hill and Little Chell area of the city, visited the site earlier this week.

Posting a sneak peek of the project on Twitter, Nick said: “Popped into Fegg Hayes today to see how the Nick Knowles and DIY SOS project is doing.

“It looks beautiful and is being used daily by the community.

“Over 1,200 visitors came to the public opening day, after the team had left. Lots of activities already and more being planned.”

Responding to the tweet, Nick Knowles said: “I’m so glad it’s thriving – tremendous effort by the community to get it built and on TV soon.”

DIY SOS has aired more than 200 episodes during its 23-year run. Nick and his team battled two of the biggest storms in 2022 so far while completing the Fegg Hayes project.
