Putin using religion for his own ends
IT WAS interesting reading Margaret Brown’s pragmatic view of Russia’s alliance with religion, (Sentinel Letters, May 12)
Human emotions bend to the wind when their belief is not strong enough to accept the consequences of rejection.
The Bible mentions 100 verses related to genocide, all in the name of God - it is so easy to form an answer that suits the occasion, especially when your God condones it.
Joshua found this very helpful when God stopped the sun in the sky so Josh could have longer to make sure he killed everyone.
The very fact that the Earth moves around the sun proves what nonsense this tale is and yet it is accepted universally by those of faith.
She remarks, if the union between state and religion become hostile, would it mean the down-fall of the state?
The answer is no, because if the situation became one of survival, our selective instincts would reject that which cannot be demonstrated for that which can.
Dictators such as Putin will only go along with religion as long as it’s subjective and not objective and only Putin can decide which is which.
In the meantime he is using religion, religion is not using him.
