Theatre’s coming Homer!
HOMER, inset, was an ancient poet, whose two reputed epic works The Iliad and The Odyssey are regarded as the foundational stones of Greek literature.
The first tells the story of the Greeks besieging Troy after the Trojan prince Paris steals away Helen, the wife of Menelaus, king of Sparta.
The second takes place after the Trojan War and follows the Greek hero Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, on his 10-year journey home where his wife Penelope has been contending with a group of unruly suitors contending for her hand in marriage.
It is believed to have been composed in the 7th or 8th century BC. Its crucial themes include wandering and return, testing and friendship.
