Crowds packed into the rear yard of one of Leek’s quirkiest pubs to enjoy an afternoon of classical and popular music.

The Wilkes’ Head, more used to bikers and heavy rock than the delicate strains of Bach or Beethoven, played host to the Rondino String Quartet who performed a wide variety of music from the baroque through to modern day even delighting the packed audience with renditions of the theme tunes from Game

Of Thrones and Bridgerton. The free two-hour concert was organised as part of this year’s Leek Arts Festival. Festival chairman, Phil Edmeades, said: “We wanted people to experience the joy of classical music played live by musicians who really care about their art. The Rondino Strings were fabulous and received a standing ovation from the crowd who enjoyed every minute of their performance.

“The fact that the sun was shining for whole of the afternoon was an added bonus.”

Leek Arts Festival continues throughout May and through into early June. Full programme details at www. leekartsfestival.co.uk
