ANGRY Joanne Tompkinson smashed a window and damaged a car with a golf club.

The 41-year-old had been drinking when she turned up at an address in Bradwell with her ex-partner’s golf club and some eggs.

The carer used the club to break a window at the property before smashing the car, causing £5,468.52 damage in total.

Now Tompkinson has been handed a 12-month community order and been hit with a £1,225 court bill at North Staffordshire Justice Centre.

She was also made the subject of a restraining order which prevents her having any contact with her victim for 12 months.

Prosecutor Angela Trafford said Tompkinson went to an address in Lansdell Avenue on April 24. It was the home of her ex-partner’s former wife and he had gone back there after being released by the police.

Ms Trafford said: “The engine was revving loudly. She beeped the horn. She got out and threw her ex-partner’s phone on the drive, along with a box of eggs. She wielded a golf club that belonged to her ex and started to smash a Mercedes. She continued to swing the club at the window in the hallway, causing it to shatter.

“She then turned her attention to the vehicle, causing significant damage.”

The victim said her ex-husband got in a relationship with Tompkinson after they separated a couple of years ago. She said he was arrested on April 22 and she collected him from the police station the next day and allowed him to stay at her home. She awoke in the morning to hear the commotion.

The police attended Tompkinson’s address and she was ‘clearly in drink’. She was arrested.

In a statement, the victim said her ex-husband was asleep on the sofa. She said: “My daughter and I are jumpy now.”

Tompkinson accepted she had been drinking and saw red. The damage to the Mercedes was £4,808.52 and the window was £660. Tompkinson, of Catherine Street, May Bank, pleaded guilty to criminal damage.

Robert Holt, mitigating, said Tompkinson was in a relationship with her ex for two years. He said the relationship suffered and her partner said he was going to stay with his mum. But he went to stay with his ex-wife.

Mr Holt said: “The complainant told my client her boyfriend was back home with her. He went back to the address where the defendant lives and an argument ensued. It was reported by a neighbour.

“He was released from the police station and he went back to his ex-wife’s address. That was a red rag to a bull. There was a considerable back story to this with the defendant something of a victim herself. She has acted out of character.”

Tompkinson must complete a rehabilitation activity requirement for 20 days.

She was fined £80 and ordered to pay £1,050 compensation and a £95 surcharge.
