FORMER ENGLAND FOOTBALLER JOINS COUNTY FIRE SERVICE

A FORMER England footballer has taken up her post as Staffordsh­ire Fire and Rescue’s new assistant chief fire officer.

AFCO Michelle Hickmott joined from the London Fire Brigade and started work last week.

Michelle, pictured, has more than a decade of fire service experience, having served in Warwickshi­re, London and at The Fire Service College. She is also a former footballer, playing as a full-back for Coventry Ladies, Charlton Ladies, Fulham Ladies and Birmingham City Ladies. She made her England debut against Finland in 2009.

The former Lioness said: “I hope I can harness some of my competitiv­e spirit into my productivi­ty for Staffordsh­ire Fire and Rescue, and maybe even get involved in our five-a-side football team, if they’ll have me!

“I can already see the drive and determinat­ion across the entire organisati­on to deliver first-class service to our communitie­s.”
