BRITAIN’S TOP TAKEAWAYS

- DIY SOS: THE BIG BUILD

Sara Cox and Darren Harriott host these mini competitions that pit top takeaways against each other for the sheer glory.

It’s Mexican night, judged by families at home – like a taste testing Gogglebox.

Heading into the Manchester factory kitchens are five award-winning takeaways that will compete in Mexican cuisine. Among them are couple Smokey and Sandra, above, who have an East London eatery that fuses hip hop, science and spice.

There’s a father and daughter team, two mates who whip up tacos, a health conscious takeaway outlet and a team bringing fine dining to the table.

Once they’ve cooked, the meals are delivered to the uber-critical families. “It feels like an elephant,” is one bizarre judgement.

Teenager Jordan Hutchison has cerebral palsy and epilepsy, but this has not stopped him defying all expectations. The 16-year-old was never expected to walk or talk but has raised huge sums of money for charity.

After the money ran out on their build, Jordan, mum Jackie, dad Colin, 10-year-old sister Lacey and 12-year-old brother Kyle have had to bunk in at grandma’s house.

This is where Nick Knowles and the team step in to give this family, pictured with the army of helpers that made the build, a proper home, one that will give Jordan the independence he craves.
