THIS is the horrifying moment a man smacked face-first into a car windscreen as he was run over when a mass brawl broke out at a petrol station.

A 10-strong mob used crates and bats as weapons when trouble erupted at Essar in Waterloo Road, Burslem.

The Sentinel reported yesterday how Gareth Teszner was sentenced for his part in the 2020 incident which saw footage shared on social media.

A bystander filmed the group of men and women hitting out at each other with makeshift weapons. One man used a plastic crate pallet to furiously strike his opponents while a woman screamed in the background.

Amid the melee, a red bucket was used as a weapon and was thrown at the car before a woman started hitting at least two other people with a wooden bat.

Two men could also be seen tussling over what appears to be a metal stool frame.

As the fight spilled into Macintyre Street, one woman was seen chasing the men and threatening them with a bat.

Then Teszner’s white Volkswagon Golf mounted the pavement and hit his ‘friend’.

The footage shows the man being thrown in to the air before the car drives off. About nine police cars and an ambulance arrived and Teszner was arrested.

Stoke-on-trent Crown Court heard on Tuesday how he had been on a day out with his two-yearold son when he stopped at the garage on August 16, 2020 to buy chocolate.

But after the fight erupted, Teszner got back in his Volkswagen Golf and mowed down

his friend who suffered minor injuries. Teszner drove a short distance, stopped in the middle of the road, ditched his child, made a U-turn and sped back to the petrol station, where he was arrested.

The 31-year-old, of the Lyme Trust facility, in Newcastle, was handed a 13-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, after pleading guilty to dangerous driving. He was also banned from the roads for two years.

Judge Graham Smith said: “We have seen the CCTV. It’s clear there was an altercation and people were picking up things to arm themselves with.”

Staffordshire Police have confirmed no further action was taken against a 25-year-old man and 34-year-old man, of Stoke-on-trent, who were both arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.
