MOTT NAMED AS NEW ENGLAND HEAD COACH
FORMER Porthill Park professional Matthew Mott has been named as England’s new white-ball head coach.
The 48-year-old Australian takes over the limited-overs job as England continue to make sweeping changes to their international structure.
Rob Key was recently named as managing director, while Ben Stokes has replaced Joe Root as Test captain. New Zealand legend Brendon Mccullum was last week named as Test coach to succeed Chris Silverwood.
And England have now appointed Mott as their new leader in the white-ball format on a four-year deal.
Mott said: “I am delighted to accept the opportunity to take this white-ball role with England. “When this role became available, I was attracted by the chance to work with such an established and successful team under the leadership of Eoin Morgan and now Rob Key, whom I have always admired as an excellent cricket mind.”
Mott has been coaching Australia Women since 2015 and led them to consecutive T20 World Cup wins, as well as this year’s 50-over World Cup title.
Australia won 26 successive oneday matches - and were unbeaten in four Ashes series.
He has also coached New South Wales and Glamorgan - and is well know in North Staffs.
He broke the league record in 1994 while playing for Porthill Park, finishing the campaign with 1,130 runs. Mott also had a game as a substitute professional for Longton in the 2007 season.
