AGGRESSIVE Amaar Khan drove at police as he tried to escape after punching two women.

The 24-year-old abused his partner’s mum calling her a ‘white, fat b **** ’ and had a hammer during an incident in the street last August.

He was handed a suspended sentence for an assault on December 3 and just four weeks later in the early hours of New Year’s Day he punched his partner and another woman.

He dangerously drove at police as he tried to escape but he was arrested nearby. Now Khan has been jailed for 22 months at Stoke-on-trent Crown Court.

Prosecutor Hunter Gray said the Khan’s partner’s mum confronted him on August 8 after seeing disturbing messages on social media.

She and her partner saw him outside the house in a vehicle.

Mr Gray said: “She described him as being argumentative. He called her a ‘white, fat b **** ’ and threatened to stab her up. He got out the vehicle. He was seen by the woman’s partner to be in possession of a hammer. Neighbours came on the street and he got back in his vehicle and drove away.”

Khan was arrested. He was handed a suspended sentence on December 3 for causing actual bodily harm.

But just four weeks later, in the early hours of January 1, he assaulted his partner and another woman in Hanley and then drove at police as he tried to escape. Mr Gray said: “The defendant’s partner stood next to a woman in Hanley at 3.50am and was shaking.

“The defendant appeared and accused her of sleeping with someone and called her a slag. She asked the other woman not to leave because she feared the defendant would hit her.

“The defendant hit his partner to the face. He threw another punch aimed at his partner but it struck the other woman. He hit his partner again and then hit the other woman in the face deliberately.”

Khan ran off pursued by police. Mr Gray said: “He was seen to get in a BMW at the Kwik Fit car park.

“A number of officers ran to the vehicle and used their batons to try and smash the window to prevent him from leaving.

“But he sped away out of the car park in the direction of the officers. All feared he was going to drive at them. They feared for their lives. He connected with one officer’s shin as he drove off. He missed other officers by inches. He was arrested nearby near The Quality Hotel.”

Khan, of Queen’s Avenue, Tunstall, pleaded guilty to affray, two charges of assault, dangerous driving and breaching a suspended sentence order.

David Martin-sperry, mitigating, said his client went off the rails due to excessive cannabis use.

He said: “Being in custody has allowed him to reassess who he is and what his values are. He is not somebody who goes around hitting women.

“He was clearly in the wrong. He went and remonstrated with his girlfriend.

“He has learned his lesson. He is not the person he was. He is utterly determined not to go back to prison.”

Judge Graeme Smith said: “You have come from a good background and had a good education. You went off the rails. You went from being a responsible young man to somebody who appears to have got involved in a cycle of offending.

“You were given a final chance on December 3 and one month later you offended again. The dangerous driving was an impulsive and short-lived act to try and escape from the police.”

Khan was also banned from driving for 17 months and until he passes an extended test.
