Veterans welcome to cake and coffee

WE are having a Veterans’ Day at the Blurton Community Hub, in Finstock Avenue on Saturday, from 11am to 3pm.

Any Veteran is invited and will be given a slice of cake and a cup of tea or coffee for all they have done for us.

‘We are here because they were there.’

The Sounds Familiar Trio will be playing from 11 am until noon. Before and after they have performed, a selection of songs from the Second World War will be played to provide atmosphere.

Also, there is an exhibition of the life of my wonderful uncle John Henry Burgess at the Hanley Museum. An eight-minute film will be shown of his life when he was in the Navy in the Fleet

Air Arm on HMS Unicorn, fighting the Japanese in the South Pacific. A display of his medals and other items will also be on display. Sadly, I lost him last year.

I hope all the readers of this newspaper will go along and see the exhibition.
