IMPRESSED:

ONE of Stoke-on-trent’s most popular gyms has undergone a £120,000 makeover.

Puregym, in Basford, now boasts a range of new fitness equipment following the completion of the three-week project.

The Etruria Way gym has a new free weights area, a new functional area, new massage beds and a boditrax machine that helps you understand more about what is happening inside your body.

Manager Jade Bowler said: “The gym turned 11 this year and usually when a gym gets around that age in Puregym they have a bit of a refresh because of the age of the kit.

“We’ve had all new resistance machines, more leg machines, new plated equipment and new bench presses. We’ve also had more cable machines, we had three before but now we have five.

“We’ve got all new squat racks and functional equipment, which a lot of people like using such as resistance bands and kettlebells. We’ve had a fresh lick of paint as well.

“There’s more variety now and there’s more of each equipment so people aren’t waiting around to use a machine.”

The revamp started on October 14 and has just been completed.

Jade added: “We’re hoping people will tell their friends that we’ve had a bit of a refresh.

“There’s a lot of other gyms around Stoke-on-trent, but this Puregym has been here for 11 years. People have got a lot of trust in us because we’ve been running for so long.

“A lot of our members have been here for over a decade and it’s good to give back to them. The gym members are loving it.

“It’s better for the staff as well, all of the personal trainers now have a lot more equipment and can do different things with their clients, they’re really happy.”

Members are also impressed with the new equipment. Ant Johnson, aged 44, from Burslem, said: “I think it’s great, I love that the gym has had a refurb. The fact the gym is open 24/7 is a big tick for me.

“The range of equipment now is amazing, I can’t fault it. We’ve got double, or triple, of most of the machines now which removes any waiting around during busy periods.

“I’ve been a member since before it was built. Now it’s got all this new equipment it’s definitely a big improvement and definitely a positive for the gym.”

And Jack Birch, aged 22, from Basford, added: “I’ve been a member for two years now. I’m glad they’ve invested money in the gym, it was good to walk in and see all the new stuff and I got on it straight away.”
