WHICH BUILDINGS ARE AFFECTED?

-

HERE is the progress made on each of the 21 buildings listed for disposal:

HANLEY LIBRARY

The current library will be relocated into Two Smithfield, while the archive will be moved to Potteries Museum & Art Gallery. The current building is to be disposed for redevelopment with potential for conversion for residential uses.

SWIFT HOUSE

Services located in Swift House have been relocated, with the print and design service moving to CORE. Demolition of the warehouse and retention of historic basements for conversion to leisure or office use is now being pursued with developer Capital & Centric as the Goods Yard, one of the city council’s Levellingup ambitions, and the remainder of the site will be redeveloped for hotel and residential uses.

REGENT CENTRE, RAYMOND STREET DEPOT, FORMER OLYMPUS ENGINEERING BUILDING AND PM TRAINING SITE

Current council services, namely parking services, to be relocated to Tunstall Town Hall. The PM Training site off College Road has been sold. The remaining assets are vacant. It is envisaged that the majority of the combined sites will come forward for residential redevelopment.

QUEEN’S THEATRE, BURSLEM

The current vacant property to be disposed of for leisure uses.

BURSLEM MARKET

The current vacant property to be disposed of. It is suitable for a range of uses including leisure, retail and office uses.

HANLEY TOWN HALL

The registry service has relocated to Stoke Town Hall and Civic Centre. Disposal of the building for leisure, office or residential uses is anticipated.

TUNSTALL LIBRARY AND SWIMMING POOL

The library service relocated to Tunstall Town Hall upon completion of the refurbishment (opened September 2022). Disposal of buildings for leisure and/or residential uses is likely, supported by the city council’s Levellingup programme.

TUNSTALL CHILDREN’S CENTRE

The current Children’s Centre service relocated to Tunstall Town Hall upon completion of the refurbishment work (September 2022). The current centre is now being used by the employment and skills team, and in the future will be let or it will be disposed of (dependent upon market demand at the time it becomes vacant).

BURSLEM SOCIAL SERVICES CONTACT CENTRE

The building is currently vacant and will be let out or sold with either redevelopment or conversion for a range of uses.

TRENT VALE SOCIAL SERVICES CONTACT CENTRE

The site has been disposed of for residential development.

SMITHFIELD LOCAL CENTRE

The services previously delivered from One Smithfield have ceased, releasing the space for private sector office use.

LOCAL CENTRES IN CHELL, BURSLEM, FENTON, NORTON AND MEIR

All local centres have closed, with alternative provision offered elsewhere. The Chell site forms part of a housing redevelopment.

SPODE (SPECIFIC TARGETED BUILDINGS WITHIN THE SITE)

Disposal of specific vacant buildings for leisure and/or residential uses is under way, with the buildings forming part of the council’s Levelling-up programme. A small number of remaining buildings will be brought to the market for private sector development in the future, which will complement the work that the council is undertaking to create the Gaming Hub and enterprise space in building 5.

FORMER SCHOOL SITES (MITCHELL HIGH, EDENSOR HIGH, MARYCHURCH SCHOOL AND BERRY HILL HIGH)

All earmarked for disposal for residental use, delivering a total of 750 homes.
