FAMILY FORCED TO MOVE OUT DUE TO ‘NOISE’ AT RESTAURANT

Revving cars and fighting gangs reported

A FAMILY have told how they have been driven out of their home – by noise from a restaurant.

Sharon Adlington, partner Ian O’leary and nine-year-old daughter Darcie say they have stayed away from their home in Ivy House Road, in Hanley, for weeks and are instead living in Longton.

It follows complaints about noise from the nearby Balkan Steakhouse, in Bucknall New Road.

They are also concerned about ‘gangs’ in the street and drunk men attempting to climb into their backyard.

Now Staffordshire Police have been called in to try to resolve the neighbour dispute.

Sharon, aged 53, said: “There has been really loud music, revving cars, beeping horns, and loads of gangs outside our house fighting. We used to be so happy but it was horrible living there.”

She added: “I’ve still got the house on Ivy House Road but I can’t stand living there. Darcie won’t live in the house anymore.

“We’ve had people trying to get over the wall when she’s been in the yard. We are terrified of going back there.”

Police have been called to the venue – which used to be the Mango Tree – twice in a six-month period.

A police spokesman said: “We were called on February 26 to an initial report of an assault at a premises on Ivy House Road, in Hanley.

“Officers attended and spoke with members of the public at the scene. No offences were disclosed and a complaint was not received.

“On August 13, police were called to a report of disorder at the same address. Officers attended and words of advice were given.

“We are aware of reports of noise in relation to the premises and advice around reporting these issues through the appropriate channels to the local council has been given.”

Balkan Steakhouse has apologised to neighbours. The owner says he has been subjected to racism in the community, called the police himself after one of his employees was assaulted, and customers’ tyres have been slashed outside the restaurant.

A Balkan Steakhouse spokesman said: “I want to apologise to all my neighbours who I disturbed and I will try to keep my business running without any damage to them. I want to keep everybody happy.

“I am a small business and trying to survive. From this business, I am providing for my kids. I want to mind my business as much as I can.”
