KINDHEARTED:

A foodbank volunteer who ‘goes the extra mile’ to help people has been shortlisted for an award.

Leanne Smart, aged 33, has been nominated in the ‘passionate’ category in the Marsh Commercial For the People Awards.

Leek and District Foodbank, where Leanne volunteers, could win £5,000 if she is successful in the online vote. A spokesperson for the foodbank said: “She really is the face of the foodbank and has given so much help to so many people. “She is playing down the fact that the award is for her and is focusing on the fact that it would win £5,000 for the foodbank, such is her selflessness.”

Leanne, pictured left, has lived in Leek all her life. The spokesperson added: “She goes that extra mile to ensure that her clients do not drop through this bureaucratic net that our social services are entwined in. She is an all-round good person and humanitarian.”
