THE friends and family of a once fit and healthy 67-year-old have organised a fundraising event to raise money for more physiotherapy.

Grandad Jeff Buckley, from Meir, suffered a stroke in May.

When he was rushed to the Royal Stoke University Hospital, it’s believed he had three further strokes. He is now bedbound and living in a nursing home.

The news came as a shock to his family and son Neil says he and his dad would often do activities together which included playing darts, fishing and going on walks.

The 48-year-old, from Burslem, said: “It broke me. The experts don’t think he will progress anymore than he is now.

“It has completely changed his

life. He can’t walk at all and gets down a lot.”

Jeff’s friends and family have organised an event to raise money for him to get more physio treatment in the hope he’ll be able to stand on his own two feet again. There’ll be loads of prizes up for grabs from holidays to a signed Port Vale FC shirt.

Neil added: “It would mean the world to be able to see him stand up and take a few steps. A lot of hard work has gone into this and we appreciate everything and all the support.

“I can’t thank people enough, they have gone above and beyond. I didn’t realise how much he was liked.”

The event takes place at Longton Snooker Club from midday on Saturday.

Entry costs £10 and you must book to enter.
