CAR THIEVES SMASH WAY INTO HOME OF DAD ALONE WITH BABY
Mercedes taken in raid on house during the early hours
WAREHOUSE worker James Edge has told how he was woken by the noise of intruders smashing their way into his home – and the sound of his car wheel-spinning away from the property.
The 30-year-old rushed downstairs to find glass in his hallway and the Mercedes missing from his Blurton drive.
James was home alone with his nine-month-old baby when the intruders struck in the dead of night.
James said: “They smashed the back door straight through and took my keys from the table. It woke me up. I heard some voices and then next minute I heard car wheels spinning. It was skidding as they were trying to drive with the handbrake on.
“It’s one of those cars with the button and they were driving it with the handbrake on. I got out of bed and went downstairs and then I just saw the broken door and noticed my car had gone.”
Staffordshire Police are hunting for the blue Mercedes A-class, registration MX15 PNE.
James added: “At the minute, I’m not covered with a courtesy car and any claim could take months.
“Every time I hear a noise at night I always get worried. Like, if they come back or something. It’s scary, it has never happened to me before.
“I never thought something like this would happen. It’s a quietish neighbourhood.
“Hopefully I just get my car back or at least it is found. You feel lost without your car.”
Police are appealing for witnesses following the Beaconsfield Drive break-in. It happened just after midnight on Saturday.
A police spokesperson said: “Police were called at 12.30am on Saturday to Beaconsfield Drive, Blurton, following reports of a burglary and the theft of a car. An investigation is ongoing.”
