THE 70 years of the pop music charts feature in (The

Way We Were, November 12) was a timely reminder of its influence on people’s hearts and minds.the music may change as the pop process moves on but its cause and effect is much the same.

The feature rightly pointed out Bryan Adams’ 16-week run atop the listings. However that was for consecutiv­e weeks. Frankie Laine’s 1953 record of I Believe spent 18 weeks at the summit, but in three separate spells each separated by one week.

Furthermor­e, the prolific hitmaker had four simultaneo­us entries in the Top 12 during the same year including the aforementi­oned; a top four domination unbroken to this day.
