‘THEY FOUGHT IN THE STREET AND WALKED LIKE ZOMBIES’

Relief as nightmare house closed down

NEIGHBOURS are delighted nightmare tenants have been kicked out of their street – after being plagued by fighting and noise.

They have told how visitors were always coming and going from the problem property in Furnival Street, in Cobridge.

Now Staffordshire Police have boarded it up for three months after securing a court order.

Neighbour Lisa Mccauley said: “My daughter lives in the front bedroom so she heard it all. It’s very quiet in the street now and my daughter can get some sleep.

“I’m glad they’re gone. We submitted evidence to the police. Most people in the street have been affected by it.

“It had been going on since January last year when I moved in and it got to the point where everyone had had enough. It took the police about five months. Every now and again you’ll see people walking to the house because they don’t know it has been seized.”

Neighbour Suzanne Naylor said: “In the mornings they would walk around like zombies but they went at it all night long. They would be shouting in the street and fighting each other. I’m just glad they’re gone.”

Daniel Adams is also delighted to see the back of the tenants.

He added: “They were nothing but trouble. She actually used to give out my address and all the people that came to her house would come to mine first every night. I’d get it from 6pm until 2am – constantly knocking.”

Staffordshire Police have welcomed the latest closure order, imposed at North Staffordshire Justice Centre.

Chief Inspector Scott Mcgrath said: “A property closure order is one of the many tools used by local officers to deal with problem addresses and tenants which are having a detrimental impact on the community.

“Everyone deserves to feel safe and happy in their home and no-one should be subjected to continued anti-social behaviour.

“I hope that this successful application gives confidence to local residents that we will listen and act upon their concerns.”
