Customers say it’s a ‘big loss to Hanley’
ONE of Hanley’s best-loved restaurants has announced its shock closure in a major blow to the city centre.
The Quarter, in Piccadilly, has been a huge hit with diners since it opened in 2016.
It is rated number two out of 29 eateries in Hanley on Tripadvisor, scoring an impressive 4.5 out of five from 525 reviews.
But the owners have confirmed the bistro will shut for the final time on New Year’s Eve.
Annmarie and Josef Bailey will instead concentrate on their other site, The Quarter at Potbank in Stoke.
There are not expected to be any job losses with staff offered positions at the Spode Creative Village venue.
A statement on The Quarter’s Facebook page says: “It is with great sadness that we would like to announce that we will be closing our doors in Hanley for the last time on December 31. This is by no means a reflection of The Quarter; we have had a wonderful six years but it’s now the right time.
“We have another site, The Quarter at Potbank, and are experiencing tremendous success within Spode Creative Village. We wish to expand and concentrate solely on our restaurant, weddings and events in that location.”
The owners are now on the lookout for anyone interested in taking over The Quarter or starting their own venture. The statement adds: “We would love for someone else to keep the magic alive in Hanley.”
The news has come as a blow to customers. Julie Faulkner said: “I’m really sorry to hear this. I especially enjoyed a nice pre-theatre meal.
“This will be a loss to Hanley. However, I’ve heard lot of good things about your new place too.”
