DRUG-DEALERS Daniel Mclardy and Alan Wood have been locked up for selling crack cocaine and heroin on the streets of North Staffordshire.

Their crimes were rumbled after plain clothes police raided Mclardy’s home in Newcastle.

Stoke-on-trent Crown Court heard they found 50 wraps of crack cocaine and 64 wraps of heroin. The value of the drugs was £1,140.

Now Mclardy, aged 30, has been jailed for 34 months and Wood for 40.

Prosecutor Jonathan Dickinson said police went to Mclardy’s address on March 25 last year.

When police pulled into the car park they noticed a Volkswagen Golf reversing out of a parking space.

Mr Dickinson said: “Wood was the driver and Mclardy was the passenger. Both men were detained and cash and mobile phones were seized. Wood had £400 in cash and Mclardy £420.

“Mclardy was taken to his flat. Whilst going up the stairs he was seen to throw a small package over the bannister rail. This was recovered by police. It was a clear bag containing brown and white wraps.

“The flat was searched, other items associated including a roll of foil, rizla papers and zip seal bags were recovered. Examination of the bag of drugs found 50 wraps of crack cocaine and 64 wraps of heroin.

“Each had value of £10; the full value of the drugs was £1,140.”

Mclardy, of Clayton Road, Newcastle, pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing a class A drug with intent to supply.

Wood, aged 48, of Clough Hall Drive, Kidsgrove, pleaded guilty to two counts of being concerned in supplying class A drugs.

Stuart Muldoon, mitigating, said Mclardy had become addicted to Class A drugs.

Mr Muldoon said: “He becomes vulnerable to drug dealers when he gets himself in debt. He is ashamed.”

Barry White, representing Wood, said: “He says he became involved because of drug addiction. He had lost his employment, lost his way and started to befriend others and those addicted to drugs and found himself in a difficult position.

“Since this offence he no longer takes drugs, he has a job that he speaks very highly of.”

The court heard Mclardy had previously served an eight-month jail term for possession with intent to supply amphetamine in April 2016.

Jailing them, Judge Sally Hancox said: “Drugs are the scourge of the city and the wider county. It is important that the punishments for those who find themselves dealing drugs are significant and if necessary severe.”
