TAKEAWAY PROPOSAL FOR EMPTY SHOP SITE

A FORMER shop could be turned into a takeaway, if planners agree.

Developer Azad Doustani wants to sell ‘hot oven-baked foods’ from the Merrial Street premises, near the former headquarters of Newcastle Borough Council.

Now he has asked the authority for permission to carry out the work. Plans submitted for approval state that ‘unlike your conventional fast food outlets the proposed oven baked foods will limit the amount of odour and grease generated’.

The council will make a decision on the application in due course.
