WOMAN LEFT WITH £164 COURT BILL AFTER OPENING A CAR BOOT
29-year-old breached her Criminal Behaviour Order
THIEF Cassie Harvey breached a Criminal Behaviour Order just weeks after it was made.
The 29-year-old was handed a five-year CBO on September 29 after she targeted shops and vehicles for months.
The order prohibits her from going into Hanley’s Potteries Shopping Centre and Festival Park and city centre branches of Wilko and Savers Health and Beauty, both on Stafford Street. The order, issued at North Staffordshire Justice Centre, also states that she cannot ‘open the door of any vehicle without the permission of the owner’ and does not enter a vehicle without the owner’s permission. But Harvey was back before magistrates this week
after she breached the order by targeting a black Audi Q7 in Cobridge on October 24.
Prosecutor Karen Wright said: “The police received a 999 call at 6pm from a person reporting a theft taking place from a black Audi Q7.
“The person identified the defendant and followed her to Furnival Street while still on the call to the police. He lost sight of her but described what she was wearing.”
The Audi owner’s partner noticed the boot was open. She opened the front door and could see Harvey stood next to it. Miss Wright said: “Harvey began to walk away shouting, ‘I have saved your life, trust me’. Police attended and arrested her.”
Harvey, of The Lyme Trust, London Road, Newcastle, who has 33 previous convictions for 74 offences, pleaded guilty to breaching a CBO.
Claire Evans, mitigating, said it was the first breach of the order. She said Harvey had a very difficult childhood. But she has support from Changing Futures who have found her accommodation at The Lyme Trust.
Miss Evans said: “Being able to engage with this organisation is the best chance of breaking the mould. It seems Changing Futures has come on board just at the opportune time.”
Magistrates sentenced Harvey to a 12 month community order with a rehabilitation activity requirement for 20 days. She was fined £50 and must also pay a £114 surcharge.
