STEPHANIE WALKLATE:

“Great game. Charlton were mediocre at best but Butterworth took his chance brilliantly. Dan Jones had another solid performance and Jack Stevens made a great save towards the end. All round a good afternoon and another three points on the board.”

STEPHEN PICKERIN: “Good win against what turned out to be a very poor Charlton side. Butterworth has that bit of quality about him, great goal to win it.”

RICHARD JONES: “Great result today and, after last week, I never expected that. I would have been happy for a draw before kick off but when we took the lead it was fully deserved. One moment of magic was all it needed. We defended really well, midfield dominated. “They showed very little threat which was unexpected. I thought Dan Jones was man of the match. I think the other defenders played well, as did Conlon and Garrity. Only Worrall could have hit that ball to Butterworth and what a finish! Had so much to do! Get in!”

BRIAN LEWIS: “Solid performance all round. Conlon and Garrity back on form, Smithy immense at the back, Wozzer buzzing and Butterworth’s strike made it an excellent three points against a side fancied to do well.”

CARL ZIEMANN: “A game with just one moment of quality which came from a well worked goal by Butterworth. Charlton were poor and offered very little threat with Stevens only having to make one real save.

“Vale were much more solid, defended well and battled hard, especially after the goal. We never really looked like we were going to be troubled. Great and much-needed three points to bounce back after last week.”

GLEN MANBY: “A great win against one of the so called bigger teams in the division. Much better defensively and than last week at Oxford. A cracking ball from Worrall and a great finish from Butterworth.

“Dan Jones, Tom Conlon, Ben Garrity and Jack Stevens also did very well. It’s a great three points, but let’s see if we can now build on it and perhaps try to pick up a point at Plymouth!”

SCOTT LINGARD: “After last week’s debacle this was a massive three points. Some great performances. I thought Garrity had his best game of the season. Butterworth deserved his goal and rightly got man of the match. It looked at times like we defended for our lives, but we cleared our lines well and apart from a few half chances we kept the visitors at bay. All in all a great win.”

TONY WILCOX: “Something is building at the Vale. Got to be good for the area.”
