‘WHERE ARE MY DUCKS?’

Customer’s anger after order hit by ‘covid’ delays

AN ANGRY customer is still waiting for his order of eight rubber ducks – nine months after paying £80 for them.

The customer splashed out on the ducks, which represent characters and institutions of Stoke-on-trent.

But bosses behind the product – A Duck About Town – blame the delay on multiple coronavirus lockdowns in China. A display of giant ducks around Stoke-on-trent also failed to materialise this summer.

The customer told The Sentinel: “In June, they told me there was a delay with the manufacturer and I would get them at the end of July. I am quite annoyed.

“They get back to me promising they will send something out. I’ve been promised three times and here we are – still no ducks.

“I wanted them as a bit of a memory but they have not arrived. I don’t know what’s going on.”

Twenty giant multicoloured ducks celebrating all things Stoke-on-trent were supposed to go on display in the city over the summer. The statues – each two metres by two metres and with their own distinctive design – were due to be dotted across the Potteries for a new trail.

They ducks include Spitfire inventor Reginald Mitchell, Stoke City legend Sir Stanley Matthews and Robbie Williams.

Jonathan Poxon, whose wife Megan is the artist behind the ducks, says the project will still happen. He said: “We have faced delays with the rubber ducks. It’s because of the lockdown in China. We’ve been given one date by our supplier and then there will be another lockdown and they’ll get delayed.

“The project is still going ahead as we want it to. We are working with this customer to resolve the issue.”
