POPULAR chain Slug & Lettuce has opened its first cocktail bar in North Staffordshire after transforming a venue in a £700,000 makeover.

The Instagrammable bar opened in the former Kiln nightspot in Newcastle on Monday.

Punters will be able to enjoy everything from breakfast to twofor-one cocktails at the stylish venue, which also offers vegetarian and vegan food, a kids’ menu, bottomless brunches and afternoon teas. They also offer a menu of dishes made with ingredients which do not contain gluten.

The High Street bar – which has previously been home to the likes of Lakota, Missoula, Stones and Edwards – is now decked out with an Instagramfriendly floral theme with plenty of spots to take the perfect night-out photo, including birdcage booths, neon lights and a prosecco wall.

The Kiln closed for the final time on October 3. More than 30 new jobs have been created as part of the transformation.

General manager David Harber, who previously ran The Kiln for four-and-a-half years, said the revamped bar would be a popular addition to the nightlife scene in Newcastle. The 38-year-old, who lives in Bucknall, said: “It’s going to add an extra dimension to the nightlife in Newcastle. It’s going to be very wellreceived and very popular.

“We’ve had great support from head office and the new staff who have come in are phenomenal. There is something for everyone and we are already seeing strong bookings, which is very encouraging.

“People have been actively looking forward to it opening and there has been a real buzz around the town for it. It’s the first proper Christmas since the pandemic and people are really up for seeing their friends, and this will be a brilliant place to do that.

“Anyone who knew it as The Kiln will be astonished when they see it. It has the wow factor and it’s very bright, open and beautiful.”

The bar will be open from 9am until midnight Monday to Wednesday; 9am until 2am on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays; and from 10am until midnight on Sundays. There will be a special launch party on Saturday with a competition to win a spa break for two if you book a table between 7pm and 9pm.
