VICAR LEADS FIGHT AGAINST ALCOHOL DELIVERY SERVICE

Fears over noise from business

CONCERNS have been raised over plans for an online booze business to operate from a house.

A scheme has been put forward for Airport to operate from a property on Leek’s Broad Street where customers can place an order online and have the alcohol delivered to their door.

But the application – lodged with Staffordshire Moorlands District Council – has attracted concerns from environmental health and neighbours. If approved, the business would be able to operate from 10am until 3am.

In its representation, a council spokesman said: “The application details remain vague. This is a residential house in a terraced block with a shared yard.

“The proposal to change it to a commercial storage and delivery business represents, in our opinion, a significant change of use which should also be subject to a planning application.

“There appears to be no regard contained in the submission as to how local residents will be protected from noise caused by the business.”

Applicant Eylem Ozkan expects to make up to 20 deliveries-a-day using their own car. There would be ‘no movement of goods from the storage area’ after 11pm.

The applicant added: “We would like to point out that this is a fairly small new business. The deliveries will be done by my client and Broad Street is a main road. The road traffic is causing noise. There would be additional noise generated with the delivery process. We can display signs on the premises to respect our neighbours and leave quietly.”

Reverend Edward and Christina Gorniak, of Broad Street, have objected to the proposal.

They state: “Broad Street is their only access to their house and there are double-yellow lines all along the road directly outside where the vehicles would be loading and unloading. When they park on these doubleyellow lines they would be preventing traffic on a busy road from passing and causing a build-up on this extremely busy main road through Leek. They would be unloading directly beneath my bedroom window.”
