THE ICE CREAM WARS BBC2, 9pm

This compelling documentary tells the inside story of a vicious gang war in Glasgow’s tough housing estates in the early 80s, resulting in the murder of six innocent members of one family, including an 18-month-old baby. And the reason for the war? Ice cream van routes.

Among the city’s housing schemes, ice cream vans thrived, making so much money that they quickly attracted the attention of the city’s gangsters.

The violence became deadly on April 16, 1984, when a flat fire killed most of the Doyle family. One of the victims, Andrew Doyle, was a young ice-cream van driver. What followed was a court trial and a 20 year fight for justice.

ADRIAN DUNBAR: MY IRELAND Channel 5, 8pm

Fans of Line of Duty actor Adrian Dunbar, right, will enjoy this gentle amble around the Emerald Isle. It’s the usual celeb travelogue format – he journeys through the country, taking in the culture, history and landscape and meeting locals along the way.

From a sixth century monastery to a railway line, oyster farm and the oldest operational lighthouse in the world, the idea is to visit the places he’s always wanted to go to but never found the time.

There’s also a rare glimpse into Adrian’s childhood as he reconnects with his hometown of Fermanagh, stargazes just as he did as a young lad and meets old pals in his local pub to share a song or two.
