STALKER Noor Muhammed terrified his victim by repeatedly calling her and threatening to burn down her house.

The 22-year-old became infatuated with a woman and even referred to her as his ‘wife’ after two 20-minute dates.

And when he refused to accept their very brief relationship had ended, he bombarded her with calls and texts which became increasingly threatening. At one point he broke into her address and stole items including her passport and an ipad.

He even hid in the bushes outside her home when the police turned up.

Now Muhammed, of Corporation Street, Stoke, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison, suspended for 18 months, at Stoke-on-trent Crown Court.

Prosecutor Antony Longworth said the victim, a single mum-of-two, met Muhammed through a friend who arranged for them to go out on a date. They went to Mcdonald’s on the first date on August 4 which lasted for 20 minutes.

They met again on August 7 and went for a drive which again lasted for 20 minutes. Mr Longworth said: “They kissed briefly to say goodbye. She decided she did not want to continue with the relationship.

“On August 10 she called Muhammed and told him of her decision not to continue. He told her he was heartbroken and would give her money. She told him she was too busy to see him and told their mutual friend she would not be seeing Muhammed again and asked him to tell him she was seeing someone else.

“Over the next four days he tried to call her. On August 13 she received texts from Muhammed to which she did not respond.

“They continued into the early hours. He made threats saying, ‘I will make a fire, I do not care. I am spending the night outside because of you’.

“At 1.10am on August 14 Muhammed appeared in the house having let himself in. A friend tried to push him out of the bedroom but Muhammed said, ‘Where is she? She is my wife. Get out or I will cut you up’.

“He sent a further message saying if she did not get the friend out of the house he would burn the house.

“On August 15 he sent more text messages and made threats to her.

“He made 13 calls to her phone between 2.53am and 3.30am.”

She also received a photo of her passport and ipad and realised he had been in her house and taken those items.

In a victim statement the woman said his behaviour has had a huge impact on her life. She did not feel safe in the house and had to move in with her new partner. She now panics whether the door is locked, is scared when she hears noises, and she struggles to sleep.

Muhammed pleaded guilty to stalking and burglary. Steve Hennessy, mitigating, said: “He has applied for asylum seeker status and that application is still pending.”

Judge Graeme Smith said: “It is quite clear that you did become infatuated with this woman.

“When she indicated she did not want a relationship with you, you were unable to accept that.”
