WORK is underway on a new industrial estate which will create 500 ‘highly skilled’ jobs once construction work has been completed.

Glencar Construction has won the contract to build PLP Stafford at Stone Business Park.

Work has started at the 17acre site and is scheduled to be completed by June next year.

The centre-piece will be a logistics warehouse for PLP Stafford and will total 344,478sq ft, including more than 20,000sq ft of offices.

The development will also have a secure service yard that will be accessed separately and will have parking spaces for 70 HGVS and 312 cars.

Applicant, PLP, is a specialist logistics and industrial property business, and has previously said that although they’ve not confirmed a tenant for the complex yet, any potential jobs are likely to be highly-skilled.

And that their research indicated robot-operated facilities required more staff than human-operated warehouses.

They said earlier this year that they are in early negotiations with companies who may move into the site when it’s complete.

Keith Wilson, development director at PLP, said: “It’s always exciting to be starting on site developing a fantastic scheme in such an exceptionally strong location.

“The occupier market remains extremely buoyant and now we have a confirmed construction programme. I have no doubt this opportunity will be very attractive to a whole range of operators seeking ‘best in class’ facilities.”

Stafford Borough Council’s enterprise growth manager has previously revealed that the development would represent a £50 million investment into the borough and added that there is currently a demand for logistics units.
