DAD LASHED OUT AT POLICE OFFICER WHO RAIDED HIS HOME

-

DAD Brett Brownfield assaulted a police officer who entered his home to execute a warrant.

The 38-year-old was aggressive when he found police in his home. He lashed out but the officer struck him in the face four times. Now Brownfield has been sentenced to a 12-month community order at Stoke-ontrent Crown Court.

Prosecutor Hunter Gray said police entered Brownfield’s home at 5.40am on February 4 using a chainsaw. It was unoccupied.

But Brownfield returned. Mr Gray said: “He said to an officer, ‘Who the **** are you’? The officer was wearing his police uniform. He told the defendant they were the police.

“He tried to push past the officer. The officer was joined by a colleague and they guided the defendant into the living room but he was aggressive.”

The court heard the officer used a leg sweep to bring Brownfield to the floor. They both ended up on the floor. Brownfield lashed out. The officer struck him four times to the face.

In his police interview Brownfield said he did not initially realise it was the police. Brownfield, of Wyndham Road, Newstead, pleaded guilty to assaulting an emergency worker.

Paul Cliff, mitigating, said Brownfield’s son had received threats. He received a call from neighbours to say his door was being kicked in. Mr Cliff said: “He feared the worst.”

Mr Cliff said Brownfield is hard working and sole carer for his teenage son. Brownfield must pay £500 costs and complete an eight-day rehabilitation activity requirement and 60 hours’ unpaid work.
