Raz’ll dazzle ’em with restaurant

Turkish food on menu at eatery

BUSINESSMAN Razgar Hassan has launched a restaurant above his supermarket.

The dad-of-three says it has taken several months of planning to get Raz Charcoal Grill ready.

But the move to open the eatery in Burslem has proved popular with dozens turning out for the launch.

Last year Razgar, known as Raz, converted the former T6 gym on Nile Street to Razmart.

After being impressed with how popular the shop has proved to be, Raz decided to open the restaurant.

It boasts a wide variety of traditional Turkish and Kurdish food, including seafood and vegetarian options.

Raz, of Packmoor, has employed chefs from Turkey, and all the food used to create the dishes comes freshly from his shop downstairs.

It’s even been put together by a Turkish designer, who has created a rustic feel with wooden panelled walls and sloped ceilings, as well as incorporating floral walls and adding Turkish lanterns to give the place authenticity.

He said: “We’ve been working on the restaurant for 16 months. The great thing about us is we make the bread freshly downstairs, and all the ingredients are freshly sourced from the butcher’s downstairs and from the store. Everything is freshly made.”

On the opening day around 250 meals were dished out.

Raz hopes the menu will represent value for money. He said: “We’re doing sharing platters for £50 which is great value for money as we want people to come and enjoy our food.

“We gave 250 meals away to friends family and members of the community on our opening day. It was very busy because we’d invited people in two time slots, either 4pm to 6pm, or from 6pm to 8pm. But they all came at once, at the start of each slot, so we were rushed off our feet!”

■ Raz Charcoal Grill is open everyday from 3pm until 11pm.
