CHOP-CHOP!
Street shut as crews fell trees and fill holes
NEIGHBOURS have been told not to park in their street – while workers repair potholes and chop down trees.
Work in underway in Thistley Hough, Penkhull, with crews expected to finish today. It follows an urgent appeal to parents from Thistley Hough Academy – after it was only informed on Tuesday.
Letters from Stoke-on-trent City Council were also posted through doors that night, to let households know the work was on yesterday and today, between 8am and 6pm.
The council letter states: “A road closure will be in place and we aim to carry out the works with the minimum amount of disruption that our work will allow.
“Access to your property will be maintained throughout the day, but due to the nature of the works, access may be limited during the course of the works.
“There are a number of trees which will be felled during the course of the work. These have been identified by the city council’s arboreal officer as they are causing significant raising of the footpath. Suitable replacement trees will be replanted.” Thistley Hough Academy’s message to parents states: “It has come to our attention that Thistley
Hough will be closed to traffic on May 8 and May 9 to allow for essential maintenance works to be carried out by Stoke-on-trent City Council. Please do ensure to take extra caution when dropping off and collecting your children at the start and the end of the school day.”
The work comes at a time when the city council is aiming to fix 6,000 potholes in the next six months.
The authority has received thousands of complaints about roads in the last year, and shelled out £371,914 in compensation because of pothole-damaged cars.
