YOB Aaron Ouseley attacked a police officer in the A&E department of Royal Stoke.

The 34-year-old was at the hospital when he verbally abused two officers, before assaulting one of them.

North Staffordshire Justice Centre heard Ouseley was in the emergency department at 11pm on October 22, when he noticed two officers had a detainee with them.

Prosecutor Emma Thompson said: “He approached the officers and instantly became verbally abusive to both. He was swearing loudly.

“The reception and waiting area were full, including children. His behaviour was causing alarm and distress.

“Ouseley became further aggressive. They tried to speak to him to tell him to desist from his behaviour. He continued and said, ‘It is a free country, I can speak to who I want’.

“He was told he could not speak to the detainee. He did not change his demeanour and continued shouting and swearing.

“An officer dragged the defendant away and placed his hand out, making no contact. The defendant slapped his hand away quite forcibly and shouted, ‘Come on then’. He was arrested and interviewed.”

In his police interview, he said he was frustrated, but accepted his behaviour was unacceptable.

Ouseley, of Oldfield Street, Fenton, pleaded guilty to common assault of an emergency worker.

Mark Harrison, mitigating, said Ouseley has no violence offences on his record for 14 years.

He said: “He apologised immediately to the officer. He shook hands with the officer. He was in a distressed state. He accepts he acted wrongly.”

Magistrates fined Ouseley £140 and ordered him to pay £25 compensation to the officer, £85 costs, and a £56 surcharge.
