WORDS WORTH

Write creatively with Read This If You Want To Be A Great Writer by Ross Raisin

The Simple Things - - | APRIL THINGS - Laurence King)

Novelist Ross Raisin teaches creative writing at Goldsmiths College, and is on a mission to make the tricky task of writing less intimidating. He begins with exploration, planning, research, method and form – and recommends playing around with ideas, using Post-it notes to make connections, and writing down random, inspiring snippets. Next up are hints on creating characters, points of view and dialogue, and finally ending and editing. He picks out passages from successful writers – Zadie Smith, Carson McCullers, Italo Calvino, Dickens and Lessing – and explains how their words work, and how you can achieve similar effects with his clear, concise encouragement.
