The Simple Things

Make a stand

Create a modern copper stand so your plants stick out from the crowd

-

If you’re in danger of plants taking over your home, give your urban jungle a lift by creating your own copper plant stand. It’ll not only protect your surfaces from water damage, but it can be put together in under an hour, too.

Whether it’s for a monster monstera or a small spider plant, it’s easy to change the shape and size of the plant stand by lengthening or shortening the lengths of copper depending on how big your pot is and how high you want the stand to be.

you will need

2 metres of 15mm copper pipe (copper pipe and fixings can be bought from any hardware store – we got ours from Wicks) 8x15mm copper stop ends 8x15mm copper equal tees

Ruler

Pen

Pipe cutter

Epoxy resin (superglue or copper glue will also work)

20cm diameter plant pot

1 Using your ruler and pen, measure and mark your pipe into the following lengths: 4x3cm, 4x6cm, 4x8cm and 4x11cm. Once you’ve marked up the pipe, cut with the pipe cutter.

2 Take the 3cm pipes and four of your equal tees and assemble the inner square, adding a little glue to the end of each piece of pipe as you insert them into the equal-tee ends.

3 Once the square is made, add an 8cm piece of pipe to each of the open sections of the equal tees, again adding a little glue to the pipe ends.

4 Next take one of the 11cm pieces of copper pipe and one of the 6cm pieces of copper pipe and place an equal tee between the two to create one long leg. Repeat until you’ve made four of these in total.

5 Add the legs to the inner square, using a little glue on the end of each pipe as you place it in the equal tee.

6 Finally, glue the copper stops to the eight open ends of pipe and leave the stand to dry overnight.
